Beaver's Butt
This game was created as part of the Narrative Crash Course, the first course in Narrative Fall 24. The task was to create a dungeon crawl (loosely defined) game with no dialogue. This game was inspired by Twin Peaks ( I was watching season 2 when this assignment came up).
The game should have a series of “rooms” in which the player can choose from a set of actions to progress through those rooms. The game game has to begin and has to end, something should happen in between.
The amount of rooms doesn't matter, might as well be just 2.
CONSTRAINT : no direct speech, no dialogue, no words explicitly spoken by characters including a narrator. You can ASK, you can't "What's Up?"
For this game, I used a hub like structure as described in Emily Short's blog , specifically the post about Structures.
The choice was given to choose any location using an RNG, from a given list. I got - 'A small town called Beaver's Butt'.
Additional guidelines I received after initial submission : Beaver’s Butt might just be a usual downtrodden place where a cult exists and we come home to see the cult we need to stop. Doesn’t need to be about beavers. Might have a statue of a beaver but that’s it. Might have beavers that act as owls in Twin Peaks.
